Hi, I’m Alyson Coutts!
(Coutts rhymes with
boots).

I’m a Brooklyn-based brand design leader who loves making lists, Alice in Wonderland, and going to way too many concerts. With more than 15 years of experience, I’ve helped brands bring their creative marketing to life through thoughtful design, strategy, and leadership.

  • I grew up in Connecticut before heading north to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where I majored in Electronic Media, Arts, and Communication. After graduation, I held design roles at a high-end bicycle manufacturer in Saratoga Springs, a healthcare consulting firm in Washington, DC, and an ergonomic office furniture company in Manhattan.

In 2007, I joined Seamless (then SeamlessWeb) as the sole designer on the marketing team. Over nearly five years, I designed everything from plastic bags and stickers to national OOH campaigns and even rain ponchos for delivery drivers. I watched Seamless grow from a New York startup into what became the nation’s leading online and mobile food-ordering marketplace (now part of Grubhub).

  • Eager for a new challenge, I made the leap from in-house to agency work in 2012. I joined the award-winning creative services team at Yesmail (now Data Axle), where I led East Coast and European accounts, managing a team of designers and copywriters. Together, we built templates, campaigns, and preference centers for a wide range of clients.

Two years later, I moved to StrongView (later Selligent Marketing Cloud) in a similar leadership role, collaborating directly with global brands and expanding my expertise in email and CRM-driven design.

  • In 2020, I returned to the startup world as Senior Design Manager at Medly Pharmacy, leading a team of brand designers and overseeing marketing collateral, content design, e-commerce, packaging, and more. A year later, I was promoted to Head of Brand Design, reporting to the CMO and taking on creative direction, brand strategy, and execution across all touchpoints.

My proudest achievement at Medly was building and mentoring a talented design team, empowering them to produce impactful, thoughtful work. While Medly filed for bankruptcy in late 2022 and ceased operations in 2023, the experience further cemented my passion for leading design teams, shaping brands, and building creative systems that scale.

In 2023, I joined TikTok to build and lead a new global design team within the Global User Operations department. I first launched the Global User Communications Design team, creating scalable design systems and assets across in-app content, email, and mobile experiences. In 2024, I was promoted to Head of Global Creative Studio, where I now lead a multidisciplinary team of designers, copywriters, and motion designers — balancing hands-on design execution with global creative strategy. At TikTok, my focus is on elevating the brand, shaping scalable systems, and mentoring teams to produce impactful, innovative work at speed and scale.
